Control Arm and Ball Joint 850 1996

This is the third thread I have posted, but they were all different, so I wasn't sure. Anyway, when I last took my Volvo 850 in, the mech said I needed a new front right ball joint. He said you can't buy it seperately, but have to buy a whole new control arm. Is this true???
