correct socket size/oil plug? 850 1995

Caught a break in the winter weather yesterday in the East and decided to
change the oil. I used a 17mm socket to remove the oil drain plug but it
had a little play in it. I am starting to round off the edges of the plug.
Am I using the correct size? I don't think a 16mm would fit.
