I've seen lots of discussion here about replacing lifters, but I have not seen mention of the old-fashioned adage that you never replace a lifter without replacing the cam and you never replace a cam without replacing all the lifters.

Does anyone know if this maxim still in fashion?

It would certainly increase the cost of your quest for a quiet engine.
