Slow warm up; not much heat 850 1996

This is only a guess, but I would suspect the thermostat. If the sensor was not telling the truth, the heater would still work, or so I reason. If you don't have access to a gun-type thermo-sensing device, a comparison touch test with a car with a known working thermostat might help.
