cruise control 'down' doesn't work? 850

I have a 93 850 and had cruise problem last week. The parts person at local Volvo told me to first check VACUUM HOSES before ordering parts: vacuum pump costs 243 and control relay about 250! So, I found my problem: small vacuum hose beneath battery tray that had hole and was almost broken! I cut the hose and fitted a little larger one over the 2 ends and wow! My cruise over the weekend was perfect!! Check the vacuum pump. More than likely, the hoses under the hood would be the culpritS. It's worth a try...and CHEAP!!
