Something else to check if that doesn't do it. Turn the radio on and see if the volume gets louder and quieter. If it does, it may be the voltage regulator in the alternator. If it is do not let volvo sell you a new one! Find a good alternator repair shop and have them replace the regulator. Cost is about $110-120 with labor.
