97 850 crankshaft problem? 850 1997

I recently changed my timing belt at 90k miles,the old one still looked good but I just bought this car and the previous owner did not have any records showing that it had been replaced so I thought I should do it.When I removed the crank pulley I noticed that the crankshaft moved in and out about 1 to 1-1/2mm (just an eyeball measurement) making a clunking noise as I pulled or pushed on it.Someone PLEASE tell me this is normal..If its not normal what kind of nightmare repair should I be expecting?
