They do lit up. Your bulbs inside are gone. If you still have warranty, take it back to your dealer and they usually will give you a new head unit, rather than just changing the bulbs. They is what they did with mine when I had the same problem.

Yes, there is a wire to that location for a pair of speakers. I forgot the size. It will cost you $300 Cdn @ your local dealer, but any aftermarket auto shop will do it for less. I got a quote for $ 200, for the same pair of Alpine speakers.
