Flame Trap in a 1998 V70

Today I remove the hose connecting the airbox to the throttle body and open the connector behind it, with the intent to clean the flame trap, as carefully detailed in the bay13 maintenance instructions. there's the o ring, there's oily film, but no plastic or metal flat canister filter similar to what i have replaced in my 240! Is it possible that 1998 and on cars have a "new design" or the filter had not been replaced when it was last serviced? My 1998 has 47,000 miles, and has received dealer service until now.

Thanks for any info.

Robert
