ECU PROBLEM OR...??? 850 1997

If I were the tech working on your car, I'd temporarily try another ECU from another '97 850 before jumping to any conclusions as swapping an ECU is very easy on your car. If the other ECU communicates with the VST in your car (eliminating a possible wiring problem between your OBD2 connector and ECU), then you'll need another ECU. They're not inexpensive new so perhaps your dealer can find you a good used one? I've seen them sold for as little as $250 used for older 850s.
