HERE'S THE ANSWER to my Feb 24 post on volvospeed.com so if you look under repairs and maint for that period you'll find the original post. Another poster suggested that cold weather is a culprit because fuel mix is richer then. I question that because I (naive me) think the factory would not send 'em out with such a problem. You may know that Bay13 has mucho repair tips & pix on that site in his separate section.

"To start I'd make sure I had no leaks in the engine compartment, looking at the vacuum lines, making sure there are no oil leaks. A clean engine makes it easier to find oil leaks. If you have a dirty engine, when you shut it off after a drive, fumes from the grease and dirt build up can build up and be trapped in the engine compartment. I'd make sure the recert door was actually closing. You can do this by setting the fan speed to high and then listen down by the passengers feet as you change the setting, if you can't hear the air flow change, then the door is actually not closing. If you remove the glove box you can see the lever and verify its function, the arm is known to break or fall off of the motor actuator.
