Tridoug,

I agree with your concern about using a manual transmission to slow a car down.

Americans do this because we watch commercials where slick looking guys in Mustangs slam the stick shift around as if they were playing an arcade game.

Treat your manual tramission with respect and it, and the rest of your car, will last a very long time.
