tachometer reading incorrect V70-XC70 1998

1998 V70 GLT. I've used a tachometer to confirm that the engine rpm is 850.
The in-dash tachometer is incorrect, consistantly showing the engine rpm at 1400. No check engine fault, throttle body recently cleaned. Any suggestions before I take the dash apart?
