Hey,
Good luck with the new C70.....sounds nice!
Sorry, I have no info on AWD upgrades. I've got a foot in both worlds now. A RWD 240 wagon and FWD S40. I have no problem with either car in snow, wet weather, etc so I have little interest in AWD at this time. Try driving the C70 in snow. If you like or can live with the handling, don't bother. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth.
Just replaced a four-wheel drive Jeep Wrangler in November with the S40. Frankly, both the 240 and S40 match if not beat the Jeep in snow driving on paved roads. The four-wheel drive gave less slippage starting out and you felt less likely to get stuck but that is not the important issue. Road handling and stopping ability are really what counts when it comes to avoiding problems. For that, I give the old wagon and the S40 better marks than the Jeep. The high center of gravity on the Jeep tended to give terrible oversteer on dry roads much less wet, slick pavement.
My two cents: 4-WD and AWD are very overrated.
