Check engine light: air pump S70

I had the "check engine" light come on which was diagnosed by the dealer as an air pump and check valve failure. I replaced both and the car seems to be running fine. The cost was $300 in parts and 2 hours labor. The dealer wanted $600. The "check engine" light is still on. I know this has to be reset by the dealer at a cost of $27, which I will eventually have done next time I take it into the dealer. However, will the car perform as normal until then or will the computer still think the air pump is not working? I think that when the pump and check valve have failed, the car goes into a default condition and fuel trim is disabled(according to www.volvospeed.com--which by the way gives excellent instructions on how to replace the pump and check valve). I was getting terrible gas mileage and odor from the exhaust. Appears to be running really good now. Any comments?
