Erwin,
Did you drain the transmission at all before doing this? Or did you just flush it? I thought I had read to drain out as much as possible and then go the flushing route.
Good point about putting clamps around the transmission and oil cooler hoses.
An even better idea is to go buy one or two of those clamps BEFORE doing the flushing or draining the oil cooler! 2 weeks ago I flushed and changed my oil and drained the oil cooler. After I struggled to get the clamp back on the radiator I noticed that it had been on backwards by whoever had done it last. So I went to remove it again and it shattered into 4 pieces ( I gently used snap ring pliers). Musta been fatigued. Anyway I had to have a neighbor drive me 45 minutes each way to the Volvo dealer the next morning to buy one for $5 US. I bought a few extras too. Good thing I did it Friday night and not Saturday after the dealer closed or I would have been without the car all weekend and trying to bum a ride on a Monday morning... Never had an oil change take me 12 hours before : ) I did learn one thing though - you would be surprised how much more oil drains out of the oil pan and the cooler if you let it sit for 12 hours - over 1/2 a quart.
I added 750ml of Moly Lube MsO2 friction reduced to the oil and 300ml of Moly Lube Valve cleaner to the fuel and I'm getting about 2 mpg extra.
Also put on rear Bilstein shocks and new front rotors and brakes (real busy weekend). First time I had done any of this myself, but it was pretty easy with the help of Volvospeed.com and the 850 Haynes Manual ($13.75 at amazon.com).
Saved $300+ even with upgrading the brakes and shocks to HP stuff. So I went and bought myself a 254 piece tool set and torque wrenches and a Dremel set with the money I saved on this job alone.
Next is new rear springs from IPD, Front Bilstein struts (buying them for $250, but not installing them myself), Trans flush, K&N filter, fuel filter, increase front air flow, strut brace, new tires etc. That should keep me busy for the month of April. I now have the interior looking brand new, and the exterior polished, sealed and waxed and looking as close to new as I can get it (except for the bumpers which I have tried everything I can find on them and have just been 303ing them every time I wash it now) Side trim looks great as does all the rubber window and door seals I renewed (Important in Florida) but the bumpers are annoying. I may try the same treatment I did to the rubber seals on the bumpers and see how that works. Back to Black, Black Again etc look great, but just wash off after one or two washes.
