If you're refusing to have the problem fixed then you'ld be best to just use tape as previously mentioned because anything more severe like removing the bulb may end up causing you more problems further down the road someday. The bulb is also not easily removed or re-installed as the upper part of the dash must be removed first to access it. That light can be your friend in that it's designed to notify you of problems and not only are the many reasons why it can appear for engine related problems, it'll also come on for some trans codes too.
If you live in a state where your car has emissions tests, you'll fail immediately if that bulb is removed and if there's codes stored. In my state, all '95 on up cars are tested by using a scan tool only so if theres codes stored, you'll fail on the spot.
