I have owned many cars that made noise from their alternators for a short time after starting. As a matter of fact, I thought almost all alternators made noise under the heavy load after the starter was operated.

One way to isolate a noise is to hold one end of a short hose (3 0r 4 feet long) up to your ear and aim the other end at potential sources of noise.
