Reasonably priced PCs instead? 850 1996

Rather than a Mac, perhaps a refurbished PC with more than twice your computers speed might be an alternative? 200mhz is almost non-functional IMO these days.
I've purchased stuff from these guys, even a refurbished and inexpensive PC for my son and they're great.

Other than handling mods like struts, shocks and suspension items (sway bars), there's really almost nothing that you can do to improve a NA 850s performance so I wouldn't advise wasting too much money on that either.
