Rediculous!
Try taking the car to a real technician who knows about your Volvo instead as there is a correct proceedure to check and diagnose low freon in 850s, a VERY common issue.
The system is recovered and weighed by a recovery machine, re-charged and if no obvious, easily detectable leaks are found with a sniffer, AC dye is then added so that when it leaks out again, the technician actually sees the dye leaking from the source which is likely to be your evaporator (a big job) and discussed here often in warmer weather
