GEICO or PROGRESSIVE?

Stay away from progressive. I went to renew my policy with them last year and found that they only write 6 month policies now and the cost of that 6 month policy was equivelant to a full year! My insurance agent even told me that it was Progressive's plan to up rates through the roof... so many percent increases over those 6 month periods.

Actually looking back over the years I started out using progressive when they were the lowest rate out there. Over the years they increased their rates to the point I had to switch companies. Then a couple years later they lowered their rates again to lure back all the people they drove away. Last year when I left them for the last time they were again the highest cost. This seems to be an ongoing cycle to make money and is unfair to the consumer. BTW all this was with safe driver discounts and a good driving record.

My experience for claims:

Progressive: Theft/Vand (2000) - 2 months to settle (not acceptable)

Infinity: Car Burnt on Side of Road (1998) - 3 1/2 months to settle!!! Would only give me wholesale (cost figures from the local want ad's) because I didn't have a bill of sale???? Found out it was illeagle as hell but nothing I can do about it now.

Amica Mutual: Girl on phone skidded to dead stop in front of me while we were on a merge lane building up speed. No reason and NO traffic!! (2001) - $4,500 in damage no problems getting a rental and had my car back within 2 weeks.

As for my recomendation. I looked into Geico but personally found their rates to be a little too on the high side as well. I ended up going with my sisters company which is Amica Mutual. I have had no problems at all with them and they wrote me a full year policy that cost a couple hundred less than 6 months at progressive and about $500 less than Geico.

Hope this helps.
