A take off is a tire that someone has discarded in favor of a new one.
Because our cars are old. I've taught my daughters to check fluids weekly and tire pressures every other week. (I also lead by example)
When you change wheels each season, check them for foreign bodies stuck in them and try to wash them as soon as possible.
I have purchased several sets of used wheels and you would be surprised how corroded they can get if you have the dealer change them and you leave them to marinate in the plastic bags. The worst that I have seen is 8 snow tires on wheels, all flat with corroded alloy wheels.
I have 16 extra wheels and tires, none of them lose more than a pound or two per season of storage. I always set the tires to 35 lbs when I put them away, that way I know how much air they may have lost in storage.
