Volvo specs. are 0.7 liters in 1000Km. That may seam like a lot, but white engines (those with aluminum blocks) consume a certain amount of oil. Oil should be check on a cold engine, that is, after sitting overnight. This allows the lifters to drain and any oil in the head to drain into the sump.
