I agree. Unless money is no object and you like throwing it away. What are you learning? Once you have the rod problem licked, bearings will be next. Then crank. What's the stock block good for? And for how long? More power = more heat. What's the cooling system good for? The timing belt? Valvetrain? Lubrication system?
Oh, yea... then there's the transmission.
I suspect the design engineers had a good time blowing up things early on before coming to an acceptable compromise of power/reliability/price.
Maybe there's a BTCC 850 or drivetrain sitting in a shop somewhere you could find. It'd be cheaper in the longrun.
BTW, anyone know of a clutchless, sequentially shifted manual I could find?... Cheap?
