Poor running until the Lambda sond kicks in 400

Hmm.. Then I'd check out your idle-control valve. It may not be working properly and be the source of your 'air leak' if it doesn't close all the way... It may be stuck at a certain opening and letting air always bypass the throttle.

It my be either wiring/contacts or the valve itself is gummed up/jammed or the motor has burned through a winding.
