Hello, All. I just bought a '96 850 GLT, NA 5-spd w/102K mi. on the odo. I've been doing some surfing for Volvo parts and came across this forum (and several others). Sorry to post off topic but this thread covers one of my issues.
After driving the car for 3 weeks, the "check engine" light has come on. Took it into the dealer (cause I don't have an OBD-2 code reader -yet-) and the dealer gave me this bit of news...
1)Front O2 sensor needs replacing AS WELL AS catalytic converter ($1300 yikes!)
2)Clutch on a/c compressor needs to be replaced. Dlr recommends replacing entire compressor ($700 eek!)
ALL before labor and taxes!!!
The problem I'm experiencing with the a/c is very similar to the one in this thread...it runs for 4-5min after first starting the car then blows ambient temp air until next time I start car. My question is, if there is a clucth problem with a/c, shouldn't it not work at all? The a/c is arctic for the time it runs. In your experiences would charging the system help me? I plan to give it a try tomorrow but would love to get your input before I waste my time and money.
TIA
One more thing -
Will this work to reset "Service Engine" light?
1)With ignition OFF press and hold odo reset button.
2)Turn ignition to RUN position.
3)After SRL light flashes, release odo button.
4)Turn ignition off.
Got this off another site.
Thnx again!
