I'm not quite clear what you're asking. Are you getting smoke at idle? Or when you pull away (drive off), and then seems to clear up a few seconds later? How many miles/km on the engine?

Check engine light is usually (but not always) related to the emissions control systems such as EGR, fuel supply, air pump, 02 sensors, etc. You (or your mechanic) can scan for the codes and pinpoint the problem.
