Unless you have a AC vacuum pump, you cannot do a proper repair yourself.

AC work is not simply replacing components. The system is a hermetically sealed system. When air and moisture get in to the system, you have to deal with those issues.

Did the earlier 850s come with R12 systems? If so, you can't work on it unless you are licensed.
