A close friend in the NC area recently took delivery on a demo XC and is very happy. Negotiated tough with them to get a decent price. Now she wants the CD changer and things aren't so rosy, like perhaps the dealer is trying make back some $$ on the CD sale. She has asked me for advice, but I don't know much about these new generation rides, so I thought I'd ask you all.
The price they are asking is $900 installed. She's haggled them down to $800. They say the computerization won't allow her to get an aftermarket changer. I think I've heard this before. They also say they have to install it because they have to download something, I don't know what. Can anyone separate fact from fiction on this?
Is the car wired from the head unit to the back, making it a simple plug-n-play exercise? Or is there some legitimate reason for them to extract their pound of flesh? I believe one could get the changer from another dealer mail order (aka Beechmont) for a pretty good price, if the install by the owner is possible.
Regards,
Doug
