self regulating check after 30 minutes? S70 1998

Sorry but that's simply not happening as the car doesn't have anything that can do all that.
It'd be best if you had a Volvo dealer technician (experienced with Volvos) listen to the noise when you can demonstrate it to him. Don't just drop the car off telling the story to a service writer, drive to the dealership when it's making the noise so that you can have the tech hear the noise when its occuring. That way he can hopefully tell you what it is.
