No A/C with accelerator 850 1996

Do you have the manual A/C or the ECC climate control?

If it's the last then is it really shutting off (air still coming from vents, but getting warm), or is the air being diverted to the floor outlets? (no air from dash vents anymore)

If that happens then one of the one-way valves in the vacuum system is probably broken and allows boost to enter the ECC flap/damper controls and they go to the 'down' position when that happens.
