Should be warranty. Don't see how they can possibly claim you abused the clutch hydraulics.
My '98 T5 is at 97,000 and the clutch is still fine. (I'm surprised).
However, the rarely-driven P-car has about 6,000 on the clutch and wife.gov was driving it last Wednesday when the clutch pedal stuck down. Parts are cheap enough ($117 for clutch master and slave cylinders and connecting hose) and fortunately one needn't remove the transmission from the car, although I'm leaving this one to the experts, since it's all pretty tight in there and it's reported that bleeding the line is a *****..
Musta been all the hot weather.
