I recently rented a Pontiac Grand Prix and with the car ideling
and foot off the brake it hardly moved. Quite different then my
wifes' 855.
Still, I don't think it would cause too many problems. I think the
Volvo already has a cooler for the tranny fluid. Transmssion
problems are mostly associated with the PNP switch which is a
mechanical switch bolted to the top of the transmisson (which you
use when you shift to neutral at a stop).
It probably is a good idea to change the fluid. It made a big
difference in the smoothness of the shifts when we did it.
Also, I don't think you can change the idle speed unless you can
reprogram the ECU -- that stuff is all sealed up. Idle speed
problems can also be caused by a vacuum leak and those are
pretty common. http://volvospeed.com/bay13.htm has a trouble-shooting
section on vacuum lines.
