Stuck Key 850 1997

I had the same problem. My wife stuck our 740 key in the 850 halfway and it would not come out. do not try to get it out yourself !! it could break off or youcan damage the inside of the 850 ignition cylinder. My car was stuck in the garage.

I called the dealer and they were not much help. they wanted to tow it in and order a new ignition lock from Sweden and put it in.

I checked the yellow pages and found a locksmith who makes Laser keys (the kind used in the 850 and BMW's and he made a housecall. He had to use some lock picks to get it out and there was no damage.

the cure was to not have multiple car keys on the same key ring to prevent this type of accident. even thouth my wife did it it couldhave happened to me.

good luck it is pain, it happened to us on New Years weekend.
