There are probably a zillion questions like this in the archives, but anywhoo :P

The sport button will:

1) Hold each gear longer, ie higher rpms-- more power from the engine
2) If in a current gear with low-rpms, and you depress the pedal, the engine will downshift into a lower gear, giving you higher rpms, and more power
