I have an '86 944 with 56,000 miles and it is sooooo friggin' impractical as a day-to-day driver that wouldn't dream of selling my Volvo.
None of the SUVs can see you.
All of the cops CAN see you.
There is minimal luggage space, resulting in a real hassle if your job entails carrying a laptop or occasionally a suitcase. Mine's also a "sweet sixteen" years old, and somewhat more cooperative than a sixteen yearr old daughter but still electrical contacts corrode, gaskets dry out, etc. etc.
I wound up with the 944 as I needed a 3rd car for a temporary gig in Chicago, and for the $$$ I didn't see how it could be beat. I still have it, years after the Chicago gig, because for the $$$ I still don't see how it can be beat.
It's an absolute blast to drive to the store to get the Times on a Sunday morning when the cops and SUV people are still in bed. That is, when my wife hasn't parked behind it.
My $0.02
