See that red line on the tachometer? It is there for a reason. Anything below that must be OK, right? My own feeling is that not winding it up now and again is worse than red lining it on a regular basis. Don't have a tach? Wind it until it sounds funny, then shift... I have maintained this attitude toward all the engines that I have owned over more years than I should admit to, and the only one I ever lost was a Briggs and Stratton 6 horse. The problem had nothing to do with over-revving.
