In Washington, DC?

I worked there during the Reagan administration and considering what the traffic was like back then, I'd try to find digs near a Metro stop and keep the 240! Maybe buy the 240 new seat covers or a new bike rack.

DC traffic, especially coming in from Virginia can be painful if you didn't know!

Parking is a problem.

You're more likely to meet people on the Metro than stuck in traffic.

Like many places inhabited by a lot of unabashed liberals, the 240 still has a lot of cachet in DC.

You'd fit right in, even if you're conservative. Colin Powell is an old Volvo fan, for example.

Given the two choices, I have a V70 worth roughly 10k wholesale and there is absolutely no chance I'd trade it for a 940.

But I'd keep the old 240 if I had one.
