This is my first post on Brickboard. Thanks, in advance, for any help, guidance, experience or opinions you can share!

I'm currently driving our third 240 but am thinking about getting another Volvo for my wife. I've seen a very nice '96 850GLT wagon. 50K miles, $16K. Here are my questions:

1. Are the engines in the 850's as long-lived as the old four cylinder design used in the 240's/940's? Will they last 200K+ miles?
2. Anything I should watch out for with this car? I read about something called a Pnp switch. Is this a big deal?
3. What are the normal things that are going wrong with 850's? For example, in my experience the A/C on 240's is about as effective as blowing across the top of a cup of ice. While I'd like it to be better, I'm not irritated by this because I already expected it. What should I expect to have problems with on the 850? Consumer reports seems to grade the 850's as a "worse than average" or "much worse than average" with respect to electrical issues, body integrity and air conditioning, if I recall correctly.
4. Were most of the problems with these cars worked out by 1996? Will this be an expensive car to keep on the road? For reference, I don't consider my 240 to be an expensive car to keep going.

I guess basically my question boils down to this--is it a good idea to get an 850 or is it an expensive choice?
