climate control fault

My A/C isn't working properly. The recirc button light and the the A/C off button light are both flashing red when I first start the car up. The owners manual says that there is a fault in the climate control system, and that I should bring it in for service. Any body else have experience with this?

Also, what's involved in the "Service" light service? It came on at about 38,000 miles.
