Has electrical part of your ignition switch been replaced? it sounds like you have some of the symptoms.

The reving/stalling issue sounds like your tranny is giving up the ghost.

What do you mean by "putty up the manifold"? Is there a physical hole in one of the manifolds? Bad gasket?
