Flame Trap? should we keep it or not? Threw mine away 850 1995

Several years ago I bought a used 850 Wagon from a Volvo Dealer (Certified)

I went through the car and went to replace the flame trap and there was none there, so I put one back in. Next time I was at my dealer, I asked him about it and he said they had been routinily pulling them out because they were really not doing alot except getting clogged.

So, now with 117,000 miles on it, (NO FLAME TRAP) I haven't had a lick of trouble and runs super strong.

Not sure what the right answer is just telling you my experience.
