Here we go again...ABS module problem in 1996, 1998 850 1996

For 1996 850's, a TSB describes a repair to faulty wiring crimps to the ABS controller module connector, but sometimes the controller itself is swapped out. For 1998 870's (as Volvo refers to them), the ABS controller module develops cracks in the pc board. A new module is $358 internet, $416 dealer....for the part only.

What it means is that you have normal brakes, but not ABS.

Volvo will not take responsibility - and I am encouraging everyone with the problem to go online and REPORT THE PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA, the people in charge of forcing recalls. Once you've had it determined that the controller is faulty, document it at *** http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/ivoq/default.htm ***. Without sufficient complaints, neither the NHTSA or Volvo will do anything.
