You then couldn't have ever had any codes from the A6 pin on THAT car. A '93 or early '94 NA 850 would but not your car if you only have two ECUs in that box. A car with a ignition ECU has 3 ECUs in there (no empty slots). On your car, the Bosch one is for both fuel and ignition whereas the other is for your trans.
Before guessing at what might be very costly parts, why not pay a dealer (or "good" Volvo experienced indy shop if any in your area?) the 1 hours diagnostic labor and save $$ by having it properly diagnosed instead? You'ld be amazed how many people waste big $$$ by guessing at costly, non-returnable items that don't fix the problem. If you ever go to the RWD board, you'ld see what I mean.
