Viscous Coupling Design V70-XC70

The new AWD system which is called AOD (active on demand) uses electronicly controlled clutches to send power to the rear wheels when needed, it's in the '02 S60 AWD and '03 AWD cars. The viscous coupling in early cars was an Audi design, late models had a Volvo design. The viscous coupling is first in line to get stressed from uneven tire sizes. That's where the burning smell comes from when uneven tires are used.
