850 stiff steering

Hello i have an 84 850 turbo with steering problems. The steering is very stiff,especially initial turn in, when the car is off the ground the steering becomes soft again. I sprayed some lubricant into the upper strut mount bearings, this helped, so I ordered new strut mounts. After installing the new mounts the steering is stiff again. Do new mounts need lubrication before installing? Could something else be at cause?
