If you have a Turbo, it will allow it to spool faster, reducing lag; however, the downside is that the filter also lets more dust and particles into the engine. I noticed the oil got dirty faster when I used K&N filters. Also, I have read articles establishing the same conclusion--less restriction, but also less filtering. I personally stick with paper filters and just change them as needed.
