You are correct about the metal clip of the tranny hose. The new clip has to go into the tranny hose FIRST then snap the tranny hose into the radiator. I also bought new clips, o-rings, and seals rings when I replaced my radiator. I used the lower tranny hose to flush my tranny. Therefore, no need to touch the metal clips. It was a bit more work including battery and lower tranny hose removal from the tranny itself. Otherwise, the flush process is identical to yours. BTW, I drained the old tranny fluid from the pan first before I started the flush.
