something loose on right side underside...shock/strut mount?? 850 1996

I have the exact same knocking sound. It is coming from the strut. Under the strut mount there is a rubber that the spring seats against and there is a steel sfaft inside it that the shock fits through. The rubber is separated from the sfaft causing the thump. I know because I removed my strut tonight and was going to change the strut mount/bearing, but it was fine. Now I have to bring back the parts and order the right parts agggg.
