From what you describe, it seems to me that the contacts on the pots have become dirty with time. What you need to do is first make sure you have the code for the radio before you disconnect it. Then you remove the radio and open it to gain access to the pots. Using a switch cleaner (WD40 will do) spray some into the volome and fader pots, a little at a time and work them from min to max a few times. Before you re-assemble the radio, you can connect it up temporarily to make sure that it's working OK. I hope this is of help to you.
